  • Description

The ceremonies surrounding the drinking of yanggona (the traditional drink of Fiji made from the powdered root of Piper methysticum), once formed the backbone of Fijian society and culture and accompanied every event both major and minor. The chant heard here is accompanied by gong beating. It is followed by gesture songs. All recorded in August 1957 in Mbiaugunu [?].
