Abstract
Part 1 of 1. [00:00:00 - 00:04:47].This recording is a dub-recording of an original tape made by Berit Ostberg in Oslo, September 1975. The actual day that it was recorded and copied by Iona Opie was 28th June, 1976. Before beginning to record the original audio, Iona Opie remarks to Berit Ostberg: 'OK, you switch on and we'll see what happens!' The recording contains a selection of clapping songs, performed by children from Oslo. The first song, Iona remarks, seems to be a version of the song 'Polly Wolly Doodle' [00:00:53 - 00:01:36]. The children then sing a version of the song 'Under the Bram Bush' that Berit explains is called 'Anne Liane' [00:01:37 - 00:01:55] and a version of 'She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain' [00:02:02 - 00:02:23]. The next song, Iona explains, 'probably comes from A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea' as it sounds so much like it' [00:02:24 - 00:03:39]. Lastly, Berit performs a song that Iona explains contains and follows the same actions as those used in the song 'Draw a Pail of Water, for my Lady's Daughter' [00:03:40 - 00:04:47].
