First visit to see the vaults and the gold coin, aged about 7. Office in Leadenhall Street - description - BS started working life there. Father went back to bank when recovered from illness, would talk to BS about the bank when he was growing up. Main impact was from partners whom BS knew well as personal friends - details. No pressure on BS to go into bank. May have been pressure on father to go into bank, thinks he might have been a clergyman or a doctor. Parents didn't divorce, just separated. Father a wise man, wisdom lay in taking shrewd judgements of people and backing the right ones. When finished Eton BS did National Service, got into Life Guards, sent to Germany - details.
