Abstract
Part 19. [11 Oct. 1998] Friendship with Prunella Clough began through teaching. Liliane Browse. David Hockney’s [DH] recent work. DH had floor in Chateau Marmont whilst Anthony Fry [AF] living in the building during time in LA, details. AF’s father bought him house outside Bath, which AF still owns. Description of house. AF’s studio on top floor. Painted 7 ft by 8ft panels in Wiltshire studio (dancers), details. In mid-50s used purpose-built workshop in nearby village, bigger space. Having studio outside gave AF discipline. In London had studio in Maida Vale for many years, liked separate environment. Limited use of Bath house, enjoyed teaching in London more. Part-time teaching job at Chelsea. Further details re teaching at Corsham. Importance of painting from head, memory, dream images. AF’s financial position, details. Enjoyed teaching especially because it involved meeting other painters. During Corsham period lost touch with former Camberwell colleagues – different approaches.
