    Part 9: Tape 5: Side A: Marc Vaux [MV] comments on being inspired by Piet Mondrian; comments on strangeness that he was inspired by both Mondrian and Matisse; mentions getting a book prize at the Slade – won a copy of ‘A History of De Stijl’ by Jaffé; the book influenced MV tremendously; describes attending Mondrian exhibit at Whitechapel – hearing Brandenburg Concertos there – was a Bryan Robertson touch. Connections between Mondrian and Matisse’s influence on MV. Comments on becoming exhausted with both teaching and painting by 1989. More discussion of MV’s paintings; focus on use of colour; detailed description of one of the pieces; remarks on a Matisse painting.
