    Part 1. Gillian Ayres [GA] born in Bracken Gardens in Barnes. GA describes childhood. Remarks on her father’s business career, his political leanings and views on life. Comments on her mother’s family, background – they were from Somerset. GA’s grandmother divorced and later lived with Charlie Beresford. Comments on the circumstances surrounding her parent’s meeting and subsequent marriage. GA’s earliest memories in Barnes and Somerset. GA taught at Corsham. Discussion about GA’s parents, childhood. GA fond of her parents. Remarks on Ranelagh and polo club life. GA attended Ibstock school (Froebel). Comments on experimental nature of the Ibstock school and her experiences being bullied there.
