Abstract
Part 6. Life as an artist. Sent a lot of work to the Royal Academy and the Society of Portrait Painters. Details of family life.22 portraits in National Portrait Gallery. On view at NPG Lord Allenbrook, Field Marshall Slim. Dennis Mathews in the Civic Hall, Croydon. Exhibition coming up in Croydon, old and new work. Has many folios at home, sells some each year for Leukaemia fundraising event she holds. Highlights - apart from painting the Queen, was in House of Commons when Churchill left for last time, sketch in Spectator. Drawing the Law Lords. Low point after children were born, wasn't painting, depressed. Doctor suggested she convert the garage into a studio. Very good advice. Photograph albums, newspaper clippings. T Dan Smith and others in Newcastle. Lord Justice Omeroyd, lord Mountbattern, Ben Gurion, and how Juliet Pannett (JP) sketched him at 7am in Tiberias, Lord Delfont, Princess Alexandra, Sir Robert Menzies of Australia, John Ireland, Sir Charles Cunnningham, Victoria de los Angeles, Duchess of Norfolk (for Arundel Castle), Arthur Gillingham (Cricket captain) Earl of Errol, Sir Edward Proteous, Robertson Scott, and the children of Sir William Hesseltine. Among cuttings; drawings of Shostakovich, Mrs Golda Meir, Lord Parker, Dame Myra Hess, Klemperer, Katin, Barbarolli etc. Many other famous names such as Stanley Holloway, Vaughn Williams, Col. H Jones, monks from Ampleforth. End of interview.
