Item notes: Gerhard Kubik presents a programme on xylophones of Southern Uganda and the techniques used in their performance including musical recordings made by himself during field work in Uganda in 1959, when he studied the xylophone under Evaristo Muyinda; musical examples include: 'Ssematimba ne Kikwabanga' played on the Ganda amadinda xylophone; an amadinda song played on the bow harp (from whence amadinda songs are derived); two Soga embaire xylophone songs played in different styles; a Nyoro ntara xylophone song (recorded by Hugh Tracey in 1952); finally a Ganda akadinda xylophone song with four Ganda drums
