One Language, Many Voices is a collection of recordings of people describing their own accent, contributed by visitors to the British Library’s Evolving English exhibition in 2010/11 who were asked to say where they thought their accent came from. Contributions to One Language, Many Voices include descriptions of accents influenced by geography, education, friends, family, occupation, social class and the media, creating a snapshot of how people themselves define the way that they speak English at the start of the 21st century.
Self-defined linguistic identity: Seattle, Washington, USA; considered to have 'newscaster accent'
