Speaker's note: Aged 35 and from Latchingdon, Essex, England. Born on 18 August 1882 in Latchingdon. Lived in Tillingham from the age of 31 until he joined the army at 32. Educated at a public school in Tillingham. His father was from Sudbury, Suffolk, his mother from Purleigh, Essex. Can read and write and in English. Religion: Protestant. Occupation: farm labourer. Item note: Alfred reads the Parable of the Prodigal Son (taken from Luke chapter XV, verse 11-32).
