Speaker's note: Aged 39 from Hamilton, Lanarkshire (now South Lanarkshire), Scotland. Born 6 May 1877 in Hamilton. Educated at an elementary school in Hamilton. In Stirlingshire at the age of 20. He can read and write in both Scottish and English (Scottish mothertongue and English additional langauge). Father from Fife and mother from Lanarkshire. Religion: protestant. Occupation: soldier. Item note: William reads the Parable of the Prodigal Son (taken from Luke chapter XV, verse 11-32).
