Speaker's note: Aged 39 from Watten (near Wick), Caithness (now Highland), Scotland. Born 2 November 1876 in Watten. From age 7 to 18 he lived in Watten, then he was a soldier from the age of 18 to 26, and the a gamekeeper until rejoining the army. Both his parents were from Watten. Mothertongue is Scottish, his 'additional language' is English. He can read and write in English and Scottish. Religion: Protestant. Occupation: Sergeant. Item note: William reads the Parable of the Prodigal Son (taken from Luke chapter XV, verse 11-32)
