Description
Item notes : Wachsmann's original recording no.: 54.338. Background story from available documentation: In pre-European days the wives of "big men" used to "throw" their knives to decide the space used to construct a house One Saba threw the knife very far, and the house was called Kalegere. The house was built on the land belonging to the neighbouring Saza chief Zibondo. The song says "This will be the death of Nabwana, Zibondo will of course kill him". Somewhat muddled but this is the story that was provided. Performer notes: Olukudhe group of Gadumire. The pellet bell (ndege) is handled like castanets: a pair is held by a man in his right hand. The castanets beat a steady pulse.
