Abstract
Schooling. The teachers at his school, ‘delighted to leave school’. Tried to get out of being in a reserved job but wasn’t permitted to join the Airforce. Learnt ‘naughty songs’ from the old soldiers when he was in the Home Guard. Time as a miller, made a good income. First farm was 46 and a half acres, Isle Abbots was twice this size. Retirement ‘I planned to do more but enjoyed doing less’. Making up verses for songs. Singing lessons at school, ‘too selfish to be a choral singer’, ‘I owe it all to my best critic over there’ [his wife].
