Abstract
Cyril Scott talks about seeing mummers in 1916, the year when he left school. His uncle was killed in the First World War. The Mummers were ‘dressed up’ and blacked their faces. Mrs Scott mentions that they have 9 great grandsons now. Cyril Scott remembers that the Mummers had concertinas, triangles, tambourines and clappers (bones). They went round on Boxing Day. All the farmers used to make cider then, the workmen used to take firkins of cider into the fields.
