Abstract
The Watchet Cow legend. Doesn’t remember the old songs. John Short (who was known for singing shanties) used to sing The Sweet Nightingale [Roud Folk Song Index No. 371] and A Roving [Roud Folk Song Index No. 649]. He got the handle from John Shorts old sea chest, unfortunately the chest was chopped up before he could get that. Local song: The Robbers Retreat. Local singers, Desmond Chump and Tom Milton. The Watchet Carol. Nicknames.
