Abstract
George James looks at old photographs of the Minehead hobby-horse. Bert Passmore would recognise a few in the 1870 photograph. 1898: Jess Webber, Edwin Bushen, possibly ‘Felt’ James, Jess Baker, Pat Welch, possibly Walt Webber. Various hobby-horses, Quay, Woodcombe and Higher Town, he belonged to the Quay one. 1909: possibly Jack Slade (with the pipe) and an Atkins on the drum. ‘Wasn’t too many that could play the tune, or it was a variations of tunes there was several you played’, the same musicians keeps appearing in the photographs, could be Bill Webber on the drum.
