Abstract
Didn’t want to start pinching things. Then one day he saw a German Band playing and the money that they made and this gave him the idea to go busking. Getting his mandolin. Learnt to play a couple of hymns, then a couple more and went to where the people were going to Church, made 11 bob, ‘I had the shock of my life’, wife thought he had been stealing. Wife bought him a banjo from the pawnshop. Drove them mad learning to play. Learnt some of the latest tunes ‘and the money come out’. The lady that told him he would earn more if he learnt some ‘classic’ tunes. He did and performed near the Bath Pavilion and he ‘come away, and I had two bloody pockets full here of money, and that were weighing I down as if I had it full of lead’.
