Abstract
Handkerchief dancing - ‘Alfie’ Collins talks about the handkerchief dances performed by the miners on the Mendips. The handkerchief dance was like a sword dance. Last saw it performed at the Hunters Lodge Inn at Priddy, Somerset. Ben Doors [?] the retired landlord ‘can still do it but he can very rarely be persuaded to show anybody’. All the others who did it are dead now, Ben was a youngster compared with them.
