Zulu folksongs and dance , ceremonial songs-Africa (Zulu) , amahubo (singular ihubo)
KwaPhindangene, Mahlabathini, South Africa
Rycroft, David, 1924-1997
The tape box is marked 'Folktales (Magogo)'. There is no further written documentation, but these recordings seem to be dubbings of his field recordings made in KwaZulu Natal in 1964. Princess Magogo starts to sing an ihubo (plural amahubo) ceremonial song. She is joined by Mangosuthu Buthelezi who sings the choral part. The song is about someone who came home to find that the whole homestead had been burned. This song is cut off, but continues again after a short break (approx 20 seconds) of silence).
