Description
This is an extract of a performance by an Orchestra at the Johannesburg Festival in 1956. This piece is entitled 'Johannesburg Festival Overture' composed by Sir William Turner Walton. Sir Walton incorporated the main musical theme from Masanga (composed by the Congolese guitarist Mwenda Jean Bosco) into his composition. In this extract Rycroft illustrates the connection between this piece of music and the guitar improvisation by sandwiching the orchestral example between two extracts from the guitar improvisation.
