Ghanaian folksongs and dance , percussion ensemble-Africa (Ghana)
Rycroft, David, 1924-1997
Notes provided by Rycroft on tape box (these notes are copied word for word): Akan 'hourglass' drum 'Donno', held under left armpit and squeezed to raise the pitch (pressure on thongs increases head tension). Struck with curved stick. Used in dance ensembles and also for message transmission (demonstration on tape) This recording also includes 'kete' drums in a dance ensemble. This recording starts with Rycroft interviewing one of the drummers.
