Description
Performance note: With drums, lyre, singer and amadinda; Part of the regular engagement Ssempeke and group have to perform on Sunday afternoons to the public in gardens of Mukono Hotel Connection to one channel being constantly broken. Little value up to 7'23" when mic problems are sorted out, but from this point Ssempeke cannot be heard clearly. Drumming is clear and good, also the amadinda (played in Ssekinomu style (one player)) also. Drumming stops at 18'11" followed by announcement on PA (pgm 03 -06) describing background to some of the dances and request to Ssempeke to come and give an item. Recording note: Poor recording conditions, outside but with no opportunity to position microphones properly and considerable interference from PA system. Recorded at 5:00pm. Recordist's note: In Peter Cooke's notes, this is PCUG94.1.1 (pgm 01-02).
