Description
Item note: Omukuri ogwokuhuruza (wedding flute music). Learned this while at home in Muyanza, Rujumbura. A warning to the father in law that the groom is coming and a warning to others in the village to come quickly. Used to be played for weddings in Kigezi (and perhaps in Rwanda also). Performance note: Played when walking to a wedding to collect the bride from the father's house. The bride can weep when she hears this music (farewell tears). The flutist begins to play when in earshot of the homestead. Then the groom must walk slowly to give others time to be ready for him.
