Description
Item note: Historical song about the 1960 riot. Performance note: With ntongoolis (lyre), 1 teke (percussion beam), leg bells and gwala or gwara side-blown trumpet; Bells were crescent-shaped and worn on dancer's legs. Followed by tuning of ntongooli (item 22b) then 2nd ntongooli. Second player than plays. Then 22c - both players playing together. Otieno corrected the tuning of Ocho's instrument. Performer's note: Elisafanu Otyeno of Namwanga. Asanasio Ocho of Nabuyoga. Recording note: Recorded at 3 3/4 ips. Recordist's note: In Peter Cooke's notes, this is PCUG64-8.23.B3a, b, c, and d [announced as 22].
