Item note: Tunings taken of the different instruments. Flat refers to the lower level of keys, raised refers to upper level. This song is said to be the composition of Jobo Ocea in 1967; sometimes accompanied with an Ajaa (gourd rattle); Girls only used to dance to it, now there is often mixed dancing (an effect of European influences. Often the instruments are amplified with a saucepan; originally a walking instrument, now used for dance; competitions held between playing groups usually during the dry season; 8 songs are the minimum; layout of pitches from L to R are often 1,3,6,9,10,7,6,4,2,5; The lukeme is believed to have come from Madi (West Nile) originally. Myel tum - a popular Lango dance is now also played in Acholi with likeme. Performance note: This recording features 12 likeme (lamellaphones); Instruments called Lukembe in west Acholi, lukeme in E. (likeme plural); largest: Mine, medium - Ladwong, smallest - Litino. Performer's note: Played by 12 boys; they chose the name of the Band as a joke - nobody in Acholi would be a suppporter of the Buganda-based Kabaka Yekka party.
