Description
Item note: Runyege type dance from Tooro. Performance note: This recording features one long drum; two shorter cylindrical double-skin drums; two male and female dancers; leg rattles as before; preceded by announcement of tape number and description; other commentaries are added during the item. Recording note: Recordings made during a visit to Fort Portal, Tooro district, for the Independence Anniversary Celebrations on the police ground. There were 4 different groups of entertainers from various parts of Tooro, performing on the field in a large roped enclosure before a large and appreciative crowd. Recordist's note: In Peter Cooke's notes, this is on TAPE PC 7, TRACK A, item no. 2.
