  • Description

Ms. Sametri Chakma sings a Chakma lullaby called Olli geet. Chakma language belongs to the north Indian language group. Usually the baby rests in a hanging cradle (dulon), while the mother sings an Olli song to help the baby fall to sleep. In this song the singer sings an Olli to a little boy. She tells him that his father and mother work in the fields: "Oh my dear little boy - do not cry, do not cry. Sleep like a good boy. Your father will bring you a toy from the market, therefore sleep like a good boy now" (translated by Subatra Chakma)
