Abstract:
J B Kaye talks of his first meeting with Alan Blumlein in 1924. Working for International Western, working together in the transmission laboratory on metal permaloy. Testing first hot cathode ray tube, testing on Bells artificial larynx. Description of Blumlein as an ideas man, fooling around, experimenting with dynamics, testing an audiometer and condenser mikes - his problem-solving abilities. Blumlein's flying exploits and his foretelling the use of jet propelled aircraft, his attitude to people and work, his love of dancing and skating, his experiments. Blumlein's work for EMI testing acoustic direction finding systems, his first patent, buying his first car and experimenting with skidding. Subject's close personal friendship with Blumlein and his family. Addendum: Millicent Kaye gives her first impression of Alan Blumlein and describes his and his attitude to people. Talks about his love of music and his sensitivity.
