The collection offers a survey of early English-language spoken word recordings drawn from commercial cylinders and 78 rpm discs. The recordings date from the earliest years of recorded sound to the late 1950s, when coarse groove 78 rpm discs were supplanted by the new microgroove long-players. Many of the recordings have never been reissued on compact disc.
