Abstract
Part 2: Story - 1998 attended Paralympic training camp. Met Atlanta Paralympians. Immediately gave up rugby - became runner. Returned to Thurrock Harriers. Discussion of childhood athletics career. Anecdote of union jack for track suit. [00:04:00] Description - becoming athlete. Began training March 1998 - training, competition. World Championships 1998 [last in final]. Anecdote - rivalry with 400m athlete. Comments - choice of 400m as event. Description - journey to Sydney Olympics 2000. Story - becoming coached by Ayo Faola, alongside Donna Fraser. Describes - character of Falola coach. Story of the Games - bronze medal, destroyed by result. Moved from 400m to 800m. Describes weight training and running with one arm. Comments - learning how to train and deal with competition from fellow able-bodied athletes within coach's crew. Comments - over years athletics has replaced everything - anecdote about social life diminishing. [00:21:10] Description - legal wrangling of accident after seven years still fighting in the courts in Australia - lost case. Story - trial date for compensation four months before Paralympics in Australia. Lost trial - valued at £1.5 million. Anecdote - story of being beaten up on streets of Australia the evening lost case. [00:29:22] description - returned to Australia on Churchill scholarship, to become scuba diving instructor. Story - training and exams. Story - returns to UK taught for Scuba Trust. Anecdote - works in sea life centre - swimming in shark tank - geddit! Remarks on different jobs. Story - athletics is only replacement for rugby and whatever else including sailing.
