Abstract
Part 5. Discussion of Elizabeth Frink's (EF) soldier's heads, brutalisation of war, heads as commentaries on dictatorship; increasing scale of her work, importance of 'Judas' and 'Dying King'. Description of EF's work process while in France, renewed interest in horses and male nudes (begun 1970), relationship of man and horse. Reflections on the meaning of her work, and her state of mind at this time. Award of CBE, 1969, and neglect of her work due to official prejudice against figurative art; changes in her work over previous decade. Discussion of 'Running Man' series and 'Tribute Heads'.
