The day started with a roll call, the route of the procession (with band), after which they would have a drink ‘buckets of cider’ and then go to Church. Had to pay a shilling if you didn’t go on the procession and a shilling if you didn’t go to Church. After this there was the dinner and a gallon of cider and then the final procession. The local farmers would be invited, they would have to pay for their dinner. The final part of the procession would go through Swill [?] to Langford Manor. Motto on the banner ‘Unity is Strength’. Miss Lambert at the Manor always requested tunes from the band (usually the Langport, Curry Rivel or Barrington bands). After this the festivities would continue through the night with the band playing for dancing. Anecdote about the effect of the bands playing on the local grounds ‘The brass cut the teddis [?] down’. His processional stave or ‘pole’, his one had a dove on it.
