    Part 1. Michael Kidner's (MK) memories of grandparents; his mother's attendance at Taunton Art School, and marriage to MK's father; his father's career in the iron industry in Kettering. Recollections of visits to father's iron smelting business, Islip Ironworks, and of family homes in Kettering. Recollections of MK's mothers family and of his brothers and sisters; death of a sister from diphtheria. Attendance of all the Kidner children at Bedales School. MK's father's political views and involvement in local politics in Kettering; MK's father's attitude to his employees; MK's relationship with his parents and remarks on their household.
