Description
Item notes : This 'Africa Abroad' programme is about the winners of the short story and poetry competition organised by the Mbari Writers Club in Nigeria in conjunction with the Congress for Cultural Freedom. The judges of this competition were Langston Hughes, Ulli Beier, and Ezekiel Mphahlele. Winners of the short story compeition were: Bloke Modisane (1st ), Gaston Bart-Williams (2nd) [?], Christina Aidoo (3rd) and Arthur Maimane (4th). The first, second and third places in the poetry competition went to M.J.C Hecheruis [?], name transcribed phonetically from recording, Dennis Brutus and Neogy respectively. Bart-Williams reads a section form his satirical story 'The Bedsitter'.
