Speaker's note: Aged 47 from Cronberry, Ayrshire (now East Ayrshire), Scotland. Born April 1868 in Cronberry. Lived in Cronberry until the age of six. From the age of seven to 20 in Draghorn, Hamilton (Lanarkshire). Educated at a national school in Draghorn. Father from Kilmarnook, mother from Ireland. Can read and write in English and Scottish. Religion: Roman catholic. Occupation: labourer. Item note: William reads the Parable of the Prodigal Son (taken from Luke chapter XV, verse 11-32).
